Whenever you’re in the vicinity of Salem, Oregon, you’re not far from this park, which features many dramatic waterfalls, a couple of which are within quick walking distance of a trailhead. I stop there when I’m driving up highway 5, or when I’m heading from the coast towards Bend.

Very timely post Jeff. I'll be heading past this area twice in the next week on a roadtrip to the Olympic Peninsula. I may have to figure out a way to stop in at this park one of those times...
Definitely Greg, it's a short detour off I-5 out of Salem, well worth a stop.
Silver Falls State Park is Oregon's largest state park with over 8800 acres. There is a temporary bridge now in place linking the Winter Falls Trail with the main Canyon Trail. During the summer, be sure to get there early as many people are turned away on Friday and Saturday despite a large overflow area. Winter trail to the right will take you to the base of winter falls before climbing out of the canyon to the rim trail. This route can be used to shorten the loop, but will bypass twin falls and the two north falls.
