It was quiet here at Topaz Lake, so I was able to hear an odd, deep bass rumbling (like in the movie Earthquake), and I was wondering what it was. Then a few short seconds later, maybe 2 or 3 seconds, a sharp jolt hit the house, creating some sharp creaking in the wood framing as the whole house moved, as if hit by a truck.
I looked up the earthquake today, and although the magnitude was only 2.5, it was very close, perhaps a couple of miles away. I'm glad it didn't damage the house… with ice on the lake for the past few days, this would be cold time to do any unplanned camping! We're in a geologically active area, but fortunately most of the earthquakes are pretty small. The largest one recorded in recent history was 6.0 on September 12, 1994.

Rockin and rollin', glad no damage done.
Hope you are all okay!! Must be quite scary when the whole ground shakes!! Keep safe!!
Wow. You were fortunate, but that's not good if you're near the epicenter of them.
Stay safe Jeff , glad that no harm was done!
Prayers and Blessings Jeff for you and the community there.
beautiful
Ok, am I the only one curious as to the results of the quake(s) and being able to shoot them (cracked ice, etc.) +Jeff Sullivan ? But, yes, I'm glad all are ok as well. 🙂
Hope there was no structural damage to your house, Jeff.
Beautiful photo . Taxe care
Living in So. Cali most of my life, I know the feeling! Love the costal picture.
Fortunately it was one of those that are small enough to be "fun". I've felt quite a few in recent decades, but that sound was much more of a factor than I've ever experienced before.
So glad to know that you are all right.
Beautiful photo. Lovely soft colors and doubled by the reflections in the water. Looking so peaceful and serene. The ice adding adding extra interest to the whole scene.
Beautiful Belt Of Venus sky and nicely reflected on the lake.
Definitely interesting to experience an earthquake…especially when it's quiet and calm like your experience.
Glad it's all ok!
Those are some really cool colors in the water and sky!
