Two more earthquakes tonight at Topaz Lake!

We felt two earthquakes here at Topaz Lake tonight, one magnitude 4.0 at 12:21 am and then a 2.5 only 3-4 minutes later.  The 4.0 was preceded by a deep bass rumbling sound 3-4 seconds before the big jolt hit, just like the magnitude 2.5 January 16 quake.   http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/eventpage/nc71927871#summary

  1. By reading the comments I can assume that reading isn't very popular while watching your photos ;).
But I must say that this photo tells a different story you do 🙂 definitely very calm photo. Really nice colors.

  2. Thanks everyone!
The earthquake was quite a jolt +Sebastjan Penko, so I needed something calming before I went to sleep.  The photo portrayed the location.  I think you'r;e right though that people don't read much of the text accompanying photos.  I should have added that right after the earthquake, a unicorn with wings arrived and bit my sister!  It would be interesting to see who actually reads that, because I don't have a sister, and everyone knows that unicorns don't have wings.

  3. Everything's fine +John H. Moore, it was a quick jolt, as if the whole house suddenly jumped 1/2 inch northward. The one last week was similar… I had to wonder for a moment whether or not a truck had hit the far end of the house.  These new ones were south of the last week's.  I wonder if the pressure is moving south and the next one will be down by Bridgeport, or the Mono to Mammoth lakes area.  The while Sierra Nevada (and the drop down to the Eastern Sierra) was formed in part through uplift… I wonder if some of the peaks got a little taller this month.

  4. My friends always tell me that we Californians are not supposed to admit to feeling them until 5.0, but a good 4.0 jolt still gets my attention! Beautiful sunset Jeff.
Oh, and a unicorn with wings is a Pegacorn haha (just to prove that I do read what you write!)
