This is a typical sunset for Mono Lake this time of year, captured in late January 2009. I hope to get a shot like this tomorrow, except with a nearly-full moon rising in the composition!
I've written a some blog articles on how to anticipate full moon rise opportunities:

Album of my photos from a few years ago
I wanted to show you this with an album of photos from my blog over on Blogspot (www.activesole.blogspot.com), but I seem to be running into a G+ bug where older albums don't update their cover photo when you repost photos from them (one of the features I love most about G+ over other sites). Oh well, if you read this far, you can go straight to the album using this link: https://plus.google.com/photos/+JeffreySullivan/albums/5110510049163163345

+Jeff Sullivan Looks like the weather will break for you. Looking forward to the posts you'll post.
+Jeff Sullivan thanks very much!! I just shared your amazing photo to the +Landscape Photography page!!
+Jeff Sullivan the composition and lighting are great, i love the way the stones in the forground lead your eye!
Also thanks for the tips on catching moonrises. I'm going to download the app you suggested in your blog.
São cores belíssimas…

so pretty!!!! it almost looks like your can walk across the lake!
It's like a dream!
Beautiful !!
Wonderful color. Thanks.
I love these colors!
sweet shot!!!! *)
I don't know +Doug Thompson… "A 20 percent chance of rain. Mostly cloudy, with a high near 48. Southwest wind around 5 mph"
We need enough of a break at sunset to catch the rising moon, so "mostly cloudy" doesn't sound too promising!
Yep…..not really a break it seems. Just checked the weather and looks like snow on Sunday for ya. Not a problem for us as we're not heading up to Washoe this week. +Jeff Sullivan

Thanks everyone! The fog over the Mono Basin didn't lift until after 3 pm, so we weren't sure we were going to see the moon rise, but here's how it turned out: https://plus.google.com/107459220492917008623/posts/Aaz7sCs2Eji
Yes +Khalid Issam, this image from four years ago is from when I was still creating a fair number of HDRs, which can create colorful and dramatic results, but unfortunately HDR processing also affects the colors and realism of the result. I rarely use HDR processing any more. (I find Adobe Lightroom to be a much more effective tool for post-processing today.)
