Bodie Night Photography Workshop: Friday, August 9, 2013

The first Bodie night photography workshop I’m going to offer this year is going to be one of my favorites. We’ll get some time to explore and shoot the town in daylight, the full golden hour” leading up to 7:55 pm sunset, then the slim 4.3% crescent moon will tuck behind the Bodie Hills during twilight “blue hour”, around 8:40 pm. That’ll leave us with over four hours of shooting under the billions of stars in the Milky Way. We can practice many techniques such as light painting and star trails under these conditions, and in my experience you get more dramatic results on these darker nights.

There’s another reason I like this date: the annual “Friends of Bodie Day” event is the following day, featuring volunteers in period clothes, historic automobiles, special tours, and a members-only dinner BBQ for Bodie Foundation members (extra fee applies).  Enrolling in this workshop makes you a Bodie Foundation member, so you’ll be eligible to sign up for the BBQ.

Here’s a video I produced to show you how our Bodie night workshops went in 2012:

I’m also starting to put some Bodie photos in a gallery on my SmugMug site here.

Frequently asked questions:

Why are Bodie night photography workshops so expensive?
The Bodie Foundation conducts them to raise funds for building stabilization projects at Bodie.

Why are your Bodie night photography workshops less expensive than others?
I live only 50 miles from the road to Bodie, so my costs are lower. I don’t use workshop participants to pay the lease on a commercial art print gallery, and I’d don’t ask you to buy me a Mercedes Benz tour bus! The more accessible I make prices, the more I can help raise to benefit Bodie. Besides, it’s cool to visit a ghost town at night… the more people I can bring out there, the more times I get to go there myself!

What’s your cancellation/refund policy?
I lose the opportunity to fill your spot if you cancel too close to the workshop date.  I’ll refund all but 10% (to cover transaction fees) more than 30 days from the workshop date. No refunds within 30 days.

Contact me if you have any additional questions.

Note: PayPal buttons don’t work at the moment from inside my blog posts, so until I get that working, the registration buttons are in the right column of my blog’s front page: http://www.JeffSullivanPhotography.com/blog
