To help you pick places to go for wildflowers, and best times to go there, I've created an album with 150+ wildflower images from Southern California (Yosemite to San Diego). It's more or less by place and then time, but ordered the places by peak bloom time as well.
I've made the album available via a post in the new Southern California Photography community I created here on G+ yesterday, and I'll post links to a number of Southern California themed albums in the community description as well.
Wildflower blooms are sporadic from year to year and can vary in timing by weeks as well, so while it's great to plan ahead, it's also important to research current conditions for that year, in that place, before you go. Super-detailed directions would be a little pointless in many cases, since upon arrival you have to adapt to that particular year's wildflower distribution for that area. I've seen some great blooms in the Antelope Valley State Poppy Preserve for example, only to return in other years and see them blooming just about everywhere in the area but on the State Preserve. I've created a Spring Wildflower discussion thread in the community so we can show current conditions as the wildflower season progresses.
The community is set up as private to minimize participation by spammers. While I wasn't able to invite many people directly yesterday, please feel free to request membership if you'd like to contribute your own photos or view the contributions of others.

I'm feeling CAUTIOUSLY optimistic about this year's potential. We spent a lot of time on the central coast and nearby inland hills this weekend, and saw smatterings of lupine and poppies (among others), and plenty of sahara mustard (boo). Hoping this week's rain helps out, because it's not been much fun getting NO wildflowers the last two years!
That Sahara mustard has been a major problem in Anza-Borrego +Robin Black, but there were volunteers pulling it plant by plant last year all over the park, so hopefully the native wildflowers won't get crowded out this year.
beautiful
wow
=^.^=
I didn't know that California looks very mutch like Alentejo in Portugal…amazing!!!
Thanks, Jeff, but not being a member it does not even show up in my search of communities. The name is Southern California Photography? Or 'private' won't?
Wow, good to know, thanks +R. Brooke Fox, when I was selecting the privacy level for the community it gave me the option of making it find-able by search. I'll have to go re-check that, or maybe there's a bug.
wow, that is beautiful.
+Jeff Sullivan I am not seeing either when I do a search
I can't change any settings on it either +Alan Smallbone. I'd hate to have to recreate it from scratch.
I can't seem to find the community either. Maybe you could go to your community page, copy the link from the address bar and paste it into a comment?
u r truly a master of colour and light
Ok +Jeff Sullivan can you send an invite? Kind of hard to join if we cannot find it. 🙂 Thanks.
The URL is here +James Lucas https://plus.google.com/u/0/communities/113831147459423462279
But I set it up to be find-able in search… I definitely didn't want it to be completely invisible.
I submitted a bug report via "Send feedback".
OK +Alan Smallbone but bear in mind that I may have to delete the community if +Google doesn't resolve the visibility bug quickly.
A bright and sunny day! I like the depth created with the little yellow wildflowers.
Superbe
+Jeff Sullivan I'm looking to improve my skills so I'd like to view the contributions of others. Do I request membership invite from you?
So pretty, it looks like spring. Is that mustard in bloom? We have a lot of it here in the vineyards. Thanks.
Which vineyards are you near +Donna McClure? I seem to see the most mustard in Napa from now into March, but I'm sure there's some elsewhere as well, especially where they turn over the top layer of soil in the vineyard.
I made a public post above this one which may enable you to request membership +greg piedmo… I can send you an invitation as well.
I'm in Healdsburg in Sonoma county. There is a lot of mustard out Dry Creek Road & also out in the Alexander Valley. It is blooming now. I was recently out in Alexander Valley took a few pictures because I love the mustard in bloom. A sure sign spring will come.
Are you familiar with Healdsburg Country Gardens in Healdsburg +Donna McClure? The owners Barbara & Walt Gruber are family friends dating back to the 1970s. I love that area, and some of the wineries in the Cry Creek to Geyserville area are among my favorites as well (Ridge's Lytton Estate, David Cofaro, Murphy – Goode, etc.).
I think the Country Gardens is where a couple that are friends were married. It was a few years ago. They now have 3 children, the second being twins!! If you are ever coming up this way let me know. I enjoy your work it would be a treat to meet you.
Thanks +Donna McClure, as soon as I get this manuscript done +Donna McClure, I'm going anywhere but Southern California! +Lori Hibbett and I are overdue for a trip (or two) to wine country. Spring Mountain and Dry Creek would be great options…
I can't drink wine so I make a really good designated driver!
