Red Rain Sunset in Yosemite

Horsetail Fall isn't the only back-lit water you can catch at sunset in Yosemite National Park.  Best of all, the rain last Saturday evening wasn't falling on us or our cameras!

We were shooting somewhere else nearby when a patch of dark red light hit the trees across the canyon from us.  I knew that there must be a place nearby where we could catch much more of it.  So we packed up quickly and drove to a spot I know of nearby with a westward view. This light lasted for only a minute or two when we arrived, but that was long enough for me to catch horizontal and vertical compositions.  The show wasn't over though, as the scene switched to a "normal" sunset with blue light in the foreground shadows and orange sky on the horizon, then blue hour light in misty trees.  As often happens in landscape photography, we didn't get what we expected, but what we did find was much more unique and interesting.

It was fun shooting again with +Daniel Leu +Amal Zerrouki +Paule Merlin and +Lori Hibbett… sort of a +Bodie Photo Workshops reunion!
