I was in death valley on March 12 and couldn't find the commet anywhere. Was it only during a certain time of day?

Yes +Alik Griffin It was only visible for about 30 minutes during evening twilight, and only if you intentionally picked a high spot with a low horizon. I planned the shot using +Google Earth maps ahead of time.
