What can one man accomplish with some clay and hay to make adobe, and a lot of donated paint? Leonard Knight's Salvation Mountain! It's over 50 feet tall and 150 feet wide.
Salvation Mountain is located in the lower desert of Southern California in Imperial County just east of the Salton Sea and about a hour and a half from Palm Springs. Salvation Mountain is Leonard's tribute to God and his gift to the world with its simple yet powerful message: "God Is Love."

What a waste of paint. Nice photo, though!
It's definitely an interesting entry in American folk art sites... off to the right is a massive adobe dome, with car doors and other items containing windows in the roof to provide skylights. The dome is supported by trees. Entire dead tree trunks with limbs. There's a lot of weight in that adobe ceiling, with parts of it held together with random items such as ladders. (I couldn't help but wonder about the structural integrity while standing under it all.)
I think my cousin sent me a picture of this. Interesting. Thanks.
Wow, interesting find. Thanks for sharing +Jeff Sullivan :D
All those words & I don't hear a word ,I'm a messianic Jew & I'm offended

It's not that it's when people who r not saved & Jewish all they see is a cross not salvation ! They need to see a Star of David ,I didn't know it was ok to believe ,I thought it was a sin to believe in Jesus !!
Hi +Jeff Sullivan, the first thing person I thought of when I saw this was Howard Finster. The High Museum of Art has a permanent collection of his Folk Art. I think this is fascinating. So glad you shared it! - Jill
