This year the bloom of "mules ear" wildflowers has been particularly strong in the Eastern Sierra region in California and Nevada. It started in the Reno to Minden/Gardnerville area a few weeks ago, was strong in the Mono Lake area a month ago, and has moved up to the 8000 – 8500 foot level now. #wildflowers

Try and pay a visit to Namaqualand in the spring sometime.
I'd love to +Gordon Wells.
Nice!! I love when you can find just fields of these everywhere! So pretty to see! 🙂
They're everywhere in the forest in Tahoe this time of year.
love it near tahoe.
It's been a great spring for Mule's Ears in Colorado too.
I really like the way you captured the mules ears. The image is beautiful, and you did an outstanding job capturing it +Jeff Sullivan.

I almost expected +Swee Oh to start singing "The Sound of Music" when we visited here the year before +Sabrina Jackson!
+Jeff Sullivan I did I sang quietly…. hehe
Yes, they're arroleaf balsamroot, Balsamorhiza sagittata +Cheryl Marques-Snider, but I've never heard someone actually use the name "arrowleaf balsamroot" in person. Apparently "mules ear" is a much more common name for them in California.
That's gorgeous.
Mule ear is different than the balsamroot- the leaves are different. The flowers are very similar, though.
woa so pretty sorry couldn't spell woa
