Yes, there's stuff going on today in the news, but the last time this happened 18 years ago, it went on for 21 days, so I've shut off the TV and I'm diving into my book manuscript and its locations and photos. Ahhh.
In spirit I'll be immersed in our parks this week, even if few people are able to enjoy them in person.

Approval of Congress was at 10% in a poll yesterday, before the shutdown. Given that all three branches of the government have shown increasing dysfunction in the last decade or so, wouldn't it be great to convene a Constitutional Convention to redesign our government?
We need to specifically design out the corruption: campaign financing from external special interests, Citizens United and manipulation of our legislative process, remove all exemptions of Congress from normal laws (trading on insider information for example), and clarify as treason acceptance of a job in an industry you formally regulated (the revolving door between Wall Street/banks and regulatory agencies, enabling regulators to get bought off through implicit future job offers in the millions of dollars).
Public service should be public service, not an opportunity to wallow in corruption at the expense of the nation. Take the money out of politics, and crooks will stop gravitating to the profession.
