OlloClip Lenses on iPhone 5S

To better document my travels in real time I decided to upgrade to an iPhone 5S with a full set of Olloclip lenses: 2X tele, wide, macro, fisheye and the polarizing filter. They slide right over the corner of the phone for proper positioning. The 2X tele and polarizer can be bought bundled with a mobile phone case with flip-up corner to quickly slide the lenses into place, and the bundle costs a bit less than buying the lens and case separately..

Of course one of the nice things about mobile phones is the ability to have a camera in hand in a matter of seconds, enabling the capture of shots that would have been missed in the time it takes to set up a tripod. Now I also have the immediacy of results in hand with enough quality that I'm not embarrassed to upload them and stay in touch while I'm on the road (without needing to edit DSLR images on a laptop). The lens selection adds composition flexibility, resulting in more and stronger images. I can still use the phone's HDR mode to reduce blown highlights and provide a second result to choose from, as well as the new adaptive panorama mode and video (including 120fps slow motion).

I'll write a blog post on my first 3 weeks with the phone and lenses as time permits, but in the meantime, here are a few samples from Death Valley. (I'll be heading back to Death Valley next week if anyone wants to go.)

I've collected a list of OlloClip products on Amazon, but be aware that the 3-in-1 lens (wide, macro, fisheye) is about to be replaced by a better, newer set with two macro lenses: http://astore.amazon.com/jeffsulliphot-20?_encoding=UTF8&node=20
