I do a fair amount of research and planning before heading out on a long road trip, but some of my best finds have come from seeing a road heading somewhere promising, and seeing where it leads. The road I had planned on taking was rough, with places where previous vehicles had gotten stuck in the sand, then it turned into too much of a Jeep trail (perhaps better for short wheelbase 4WD vehicles than a stock SUV), so I stopped for the night. This morning I'll take a side road towards these mountains. There's no telling what I might find, but they say it's the journey that matters, and when exploring old mining roads out in the desert, that's almost guaranteed not to be dull.
I Wonder What’s Up There?
