The only catch is, it's best seen in the sky this time of year in the hours shortly before dawn. The Milky Way becomes more available in the hours after sunset by early June. Lighting for the foreground was provided by a passing car.
It's starting to get hot in Death Valley, so my next visits this Spring will be to the higher elevations. Then I'll schedule a workshop or two this Fall:

Stunning man, good work!
Wow…so very amazing +Jeff Sullivan
wow…that loveliest image. Thank you.
just to feel…….what a feeling…….thanks for the pic
your photo is fantastic ,Jeff ,thank you !
Thank you! That glow on the horizon is not from teh nuclear test sites in Nevada, it is from Las Vegas, two hours drive away to the southeast. It takes 90-100 miles before the light from a major city starts to fade, so you really have to get out in the middle of nowhere in order to get the darkest possible skies for the best night sky photography.
The +IDA – International Dark-Sky Association tests and certifies light pollution in various locations, and it names "Dark Sky Reserves" where you can find some of the best night sky viewing: http://www.darksky.org/
Parts of Death Valley are among the darker places on the planet, but you either need to stick a mountain range between you and Las Vegas, or you need to move further north in the park.
Blessed I feel when I look at your pic
Wow. You really captured the feeling of being in space with this one, +Jeff Sullivan. But then you've grounded it in the Earth too. Really nice.
Very beautiful photo!

I really like to show our world in the context of its place among the stars +Gideon Rosenblatt. We're such a small, fragile speck (blue dot as Carl Sagan used to refer to the earth) in the immensity of space.
For pure, geeky astrophotography goodness I spent one afternoon silhouetting the planet Venus and earth-bound objects against the face of the sun, an opportunity which woun't come again until another 103 years from now: https://plus.google.com/107459220492917008623/posts/h5e7fmEicyW
AMAZING =-O Wow
