As seen from the Panamint Mountains last weekend. You can see how little of the salt flats became wet enough to re-crystallize into a fresh, white surface. Death Valley is many miles across, so it looks like it's a 1.5 to 2 mile walk to the large expanse of white salt. Fortunately you can find smaller patches along the sides of the salt flats.
I'm working on my fall/winter photography workshop schedule, and will put the Death Valley dates here: http://www.jeffsullivanphotography.com/blog/death-valley-photography-workshop-2013/
