When the conditions and your shooting position are just right, as they were for the G+/ +Panoramio photo walk +Lori Hibbett and I organized a couple of summers ago, you can catch moonbows with star trails and a reflection.

On Saturday night I and +Nikolay Zherebtsov had a first try ever to shoot star trails above the upper Yosemite Fall. Thank you +Jeffrey Sullivan and +Lori Hibbett for guiding us, giving tips and showing nice shooting spots! I learned a lot. Thank you +Pasha Krasilnikov for lending us your camera!

Sweet shot! How many shots! How many to get the full circle ?
+Dorthy Roi That's always a bit of a funny question since of course it takes 24 hours to complete a full circle. To get the appearance of the circular motion of the earth's rotation around its axis varies a bit with how bright the moon is and how many of the weaker stars that light wipes out. On a dark night with no moon you can see a lot of stars and get a good sense of the earth's rotation in 20 minutes. On a bright, full moon night it's a good idea to shoot for 30-45 minutes or more, since there will be fewer stars tracing out the circular arc.
