Mid-May Snow Storm in Yosemite Valley

I love Yosemite Valley with a dusting of snow after a storm in May, when you get elements of Winter and Spring mixed, as well as clouds and mist from a breaking storm. The composition isn't exactly what I'd want: while I like the branch in the sky echoing the grass int eh foreground, I don't like the pine needles hanging in front of Cathedral Rock, and the branch moved a bit, so while I prefer the HDR processing for the rest of the photo, trying to substitute in the branch from a single exposure is probably more trouble than it's worth.

There was a small issue when I exposed it… it was raining lightly, and a couple of drops of water landed on the lens, creating a couple of spots of rainbow-colored diffracted light on the trees on the right side. Again, it could be dealt with, but a simple spot removal cursor doesn't quite cut it, so for the moment it would take more trouble than it's worth. So while the shot looks pretty good at low resolution, remains an outtake at higher resolution until it gets more work. Perhaps some future post-processing software will automate the required edits.

  1. I love the location ! Great shot ! Amazing sight ! And your text is absolutely beautiful ! Your description about the things that you were looking at made me feel like I was at that same place !( Jeff I can't write as well as you can but I hope you can understand what I'm trying to say !

  2. Wow. It amazes me the way some photographers can capture the beauty of nature. I'm jealous because when I see something beautiful, I can only look at it. I am not able to capture it and take it with me.

  3. Living in the valley it's sad people seem to forget we're just a hour and a half away from Yosemite and Yellowstone when people literally come from all around the world to marvel at the parks' beauty. Not to mention we're also the same distance away from a beautiful coast… haha #ILoveLivingInCali
