The Milky Way at 10:50 pm over Bodie last Friday night, July 25, during our last workshop. I used a combination of direct and reflected light to illuminate the church.

Gorgeous picture
+Nitya Goyal I used several seconds of direct light with the flashlight panning around the building, then I used my hand as a reflector/diffuser to fill in the foreground.

Beautiful….
How do you get all the stars like that I've been trying w I think my camera and can't figure it out do you need a special lens ?
Great picture…never stop, you are so talented!
geniall…
Einfach super toll
Wonderful work
Jason, a wide angle lens with a very low f stop helps, but isn't needed. I've done good stuff with the 18-55 f3.5 kit lens that came with my Nikon D3200.
Good job Jeff love it
Not coo
I got a cannon rebel t1i cause I wasn't familiar with what was great gear I just listen to the person who worked there and baught it I love photography I just want to get cool stuff like this it's awesome thanks for the tip
What is the range of the lowest mm lens that you have Jason? With that information I can suggest some settings that should work for you. Also, check out http://www.jshine.net/astronomy/dark_sky/ to get a good Milky Way photo you should travel to a blue or gray area.
Bellissimo
I got the efs 55 -250 mm zoom my wide angle is a efs 18-55 mm
Using the 18-55 lens you should set it to 18mm and 20 second exposure and ISO 800. The picture will come out black but using photo editing software you can make it look great.
Higher ISO and will be grainy. Lower ISO and you'll need a longer exposure that would cause star trails to start generating. You can bump the 20s to 30s without the trails being noticeable however.
Tip, set ISO to max and manually focus on a light over 200 feet away so light is a pinpoint, this is the focus you will keep for the entire night. Once set, lower the ISO to 800
