500px announced new Groups functionality last night. It's a beta feature and only some people have access to it, so you while you can join groups and post to them, most 500px users don't have the ability to form one at the moment. I'd be curious to hear your thoughts on the new functionality if you've had a chance to check it out.

I love the wonderful balance of light and shadow!! Beautiful! Thanks for sharing with the #LandscapePhotography theme!!
Just spending some time in there today so not sure yet my full thoughts, I do like the idea of being able to rate up or down discussions to help surface interesting things but really depends on the community and how well we all contribute...
+Mark Stagi It's an interesting implementation, mixing the contribution of photos to the "pool" of photos in with the text-based discussions. Most people view groups as a place to contribute photos and most of the groups state that's what they're there for, but in some groups, people who want a place for text discussions separate from the flood of photos are vilifying the photo contributions (even when the group specifically invites photo contributions).
I think it would be good to have the ability to add images to your comments in a discussion, when you have a more generic discussion on something having threaded examples would be helpful.
My pleasure +Margaret Tompkins. I just noticed that this image shared directly from 500px both appears on G+ large AND it's hot-linked to the photo back to 500px! That's pretty cool, but I wonder if posts on G+ from 500px have the same visibility here, or if they have lower odds of getting prioritized for views in the G+ algorithms. This is a decent photo, so it should provide a good test case...
This does seem to be getting far fewer views than my posts of on-site content, and zero shares (except one I made just to see if the share function was working at all). Sad, I had hoped that perhaps Google had decided to implement the same integrity on G+ that has made Google Search a valuable and market-leading service.
can't say much yet, +Jeff Sullivan
i miss a connection to the groups from the regular posted photos.
it's somehow confusing to have 2 possibilities to discuss.
+Karl Louis Good point. I agree, I looked for a way to add photos to a group from the photo, and when looking at photos I missed seeing what group(s) it was in.
The extra navigation could help spur more cross-pollination of users discovering each other, and for many photographers that's kind of the point or photo sharing... making new online friends, with similar photography interests, perhaps even shooting in the same geography.
I've met a lot of photographers in person through organized photowalks and informal ad hoc meetings, and that's one of the best things about sharing photos online.
Jeff, on my phone this image is very small. When i press image, it then takes me to 500px, where image is larger. Though only options to share are fb, tweet, & pinterest. I couldnt share to g+.
I kind of like the specific groups-the kind of photography youre interested in. But im new to 500px. But i was frustrated there wasnt option to share to g+. Perhaps theres some other way im missing.
+Renee Liggett Good to know, thanks!
