Black and White Software Trials

Shoot Yosemite Valley day and night with landscape photographer Jeff Sullivan

I converted a few images to black and white using +Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, Silver Efex in the +Nik Collection, and +onOne‘s Perfect Effects 8. In some cases I also pre-processed RAW files in Lightroom and processed multiple exposures in Photomatix 5 to increase dynamic range before starting the black and white conversion.

2019 update: I’m continuing to experiment with black and white. Our eyes are drawn to brightness & contrast, and our gaze follows edges/lines. Black and white can help focus our attention on lines, shapes and light.

Here’s an album on Flickr of some of my results over the past dozen years: Black and White.
