Shoot Yosemite Valley day and night with landscape photographer Jeff Sullivan
I converted a few images to black and white using +Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 5, Silver Efex in the +Nik Collection, and +onOne‘s Perfect Effects 8. In some cases I also pre-processed RAW files in Lightroom and processed multiple exposures in Photomatix 5 to increase dynamic range before starting the black and white conversion.
2019 update: I’m continuing to experiment with black and white. Our eyes are drawn to brightness & contrast, and our gaze follows edges/lines. Black and white can help focus our attention on lines, shapes and light.
Here’s an album on Flickr of some of my results over the past dozen years: Black and White.

Those are really nice. I use Lightroom for most of my post-production, and I like to drop the vibrance and saturation down, but not all of the way. I usually give clarity a boost (how much depends on the shot), but I like to mess around with the vibrance and saturation at low levels with high contrast, varying clarity. I find that I can get some very dramatic shots, like this one:

Keep it up. Your work is awesome.
Le contraste manque de profondeur.....
Beautiful photos in Black and White.

+Frederic.benabdelkader Frederic.benabdelkader Did you "+1" your own post? Hahaha. Wow.
+Frederic.benabdelkader Frederic.benabdelkader Yes, high contrast would make them better, for sure. No need to keep explaining it. lol.
+Rōnin Dusette On this pass I mainly took images I had processed in color, since they already had spot removal and other steps done, but sometimes the noise seemed more noticeable in black and white. I should definitely adjust a few from scratch to black and white.
