With eroded badlands, slot canyons, wildflowers in the spring, and dark skies for night photography, Anza-Borrego Desert State Park is worthy of anyone's California travel bucket list. The adjacent community of Borrego Springs has been recognized by the +IDA – International Dark-Sky Association as a Dark Sky Community for its efforts to preserve visibility of the night sky. Although many people think of the cooler, fall through spring months as best for desert travel, the nights around the new moon dates in the summer are particularly good for Milky Way photography.
