Yosemite Spring Workshop 2019

Yosemite night photography and astrophotography

I’m a bit out of commission at the moment with a torn retina repaired and healing, and as of yesterday I may have broken a fingertip in my left hand, but as long as I don’t try to edit photos in detail or type much…

So here are mostly night photos (no dust spots to edit), with very little accompanying text, from my Yosemite workshop last week.

A star trails image constructed from 67 individual photos taken last week in Yosemite National Park:

Vertical video is becoming very popular on many social media sites due to the prevalence of mobile handsets, so I thought that I’d try this one on various sites to see how it’s received. This video was made from 267 individual images. It’s in MP4 format, 1080 pixels high:

Interestingly, Instagram cropped the same video to a 4:3 format: https://www.instagram.com/p/Bww4TovFPJu/

I experienced a detached retina about a week before my Yosemite workshop so I’m not doing much post-processing at the moment, but at least the night shots don’t show dust spots, and they don’t show up well in most wildflower images, so here are a few of those. Hopefully my eyesight will recover in the coming weeks.

The Merced River Canyon was stunning too, and there were construction delays that provided time for wildflower photography:

The bloom was so strong this year following recent wildfires, I decided to take the Merced River Canyon and Highway 49 on the way back home as well.
