Lightning on Luther Pass

We don't get a lot of lightning in much of California, so this is one of my first lightning images, captured back in August 2006.  It's a combination of two adjacent exposures, to include the lightning from each.  To catch lightning it's simplest to use long exposures (so you don't have to buy a special shutter release triggered by the lightning flash itself), but it's also often windy close to these storms, so there is some risk of tripod movement.  The images I combined to create this ended up a little soft, so they'll never make great large prints, but I still like seeing the event in a less demanding resolution like this.

  1. We get lightning quite often in Georgia. I have loved watching the storms approach, lightning is so powerful and at a distance, amazing to watch. If it gets close it deserves to be taken seriously.
