Capture the Sunset Moon Rise Tonight!

The night before the full moon date is often the best for capturing the nearly-full moon rising, in an exposure which balances with the surrounding landscape.  Tonight is that night!  Consider shooting locations which face East or slightly to the Northeast, as the moon will rise a little north of due East (not quite halfway between East and Northeast).

I wrote a blog post a while back on how to anticipate these opportunities:

To anyone who happens to be in this area (Tahoe or the Eastern Sierra from Reno to Bishop)… we could have a stunning moon rise at sunset tonight (Dec 27) at Mono Lake, as the moon clears the horizon around 4:36 pm, just as sunset is getting underway by 4:43 pm.  I checked the +Mono Lake Committee's Web cam, and the conditions look great.
