Alpenglow on Mount Whitney This Morning

It's been cold in California over the past few days as a storm came down from Alaska.  Sunrises have been particularly chilly, but the snow on the mountains has been great for photography.

This light lasted only a minute or two, then the sun slipped behind a cloud and it was gone.

  1. +Mohd Khairil Othman The strenuous hike is 12 to 18 hours covering about 22 mi (35 km) round trip.  Most people take two days using the Whitney Portal trailhead at an elevation of 8,360 ft (2,550 m) with an elevation gain of over 6,100 feet (1,860 m), reaching the summit of 14,505 feet (4,421 m).  The record round trip though is 3 hours 10 minutes!
