Cotton Candy Sunset over 1937 Chevrolet at Bodie

Every night this week we have scattered thunder storms in the forecast here in the Eastern Sierra.  Fortunately the storms are often breaking up enough by sunset to let a lot of sunset color through, first yellow golden hour light, then oranges, then as blue hour light takes over, shades of magenta, pink and purple emerge.  For Saturday night's workshop we in time to enjoy the entire range of color progression from golden hour through sunset and blue hour.  The clouds were a little slow in clearing up, but they did make way for star shots, including compositions featuring the Milky Way, before the moon started approaching on the eastern horizon.

We'll offer a couple more workshop here in 2013: http://www.jeffsullivanphotography.com/blog/bodie-night-photography-workshops/

  1. Can't wait to see your shots from Saturday night in Bodie +Toby Harriman.  Good thing you didn't try to follow us yesterday… we ended up on a crazy 4WD road.  We scraped the bottom of my SUV on large rocks, slid down lose rock "scree", had to cut a ledge with a shovel to not slip into an eroded crevasse (and possibly roll down the mountain), trimmed trees to get around one large rock in a forest, crossed muddy creeks, and thought me might roll in a couple of places.  Then after 5 hours in 4WD low, we ran low on gas.  My arms are sore from the adrenaline… gripping the steering wheel and hanging on.  My vehicle has some fresh "redneck racing stripes" from bushwhacking.

I can't wait to go back up there, but it requires a combination of high clearance and narrow wheelbase 4WD.  The only other vehicles we saw on the trail were ATVs.
